Outreach

  • Project 1:27
James 1:27: “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” The definition of “orphan” in Uganda is any child that has lost their father or both parents. In Iganga, men commonly have 3 to 4 wives and the average woman has 7 to 8 children. This means that when a man dies, he leaves 3 or 4 uneducated women to care for their children with no source of income. On top of having the responsibility of caring for their children with nothing but a small grass thatched mud hut in the village and a small plot of land for growing food, many of these women have contracted HIV and do not have access to medication. At Musana, more than half of our children have living mothers that are not capable of providing adequate shelter, nutrition, healthcare, or education. Most of these mothers are 15 to 25 years old and give up responsibility of their children not because they do not love them, but because they want them to have a better future. Project 1:27 will be a two year program where single mothers will live with their children on Musana’s compound and will be provided accommodation, meals, medical treatment, and education. The children will attend school at Musana’s primary school but will live in a small home with their mother. The mother will take part in small group lessons with the other women in the program that will focus on spiritual development, family planning, and the essence of motherhood. The women will also take Basic English classes and be taught a skill in Musana’s technical school.  After two years, these women will leave Musana, equipped to meet the challenges of this world. We will help them transition into the society by finding them employment or giving them a business loan. We will be giving them financial support until they can provide for themselves and their children fully on their own.

  • Musana Secondary School
Musana will begin a secondary school that will continue to educate beyond Primary school. Only 22% of Ugandans are educated at a Secondary Level. The main reason for this is because of the school fees required and a general lack of schools. We desire that our kids leave Musana well educated and highly skilled so they can make valuable contributions to their country.
  • Musana Trade School
Musana will also begin a trade school that will teach our children as well as community members vital skills that will help them generate an income for themselves and improve the overall living standard of the their community.
  • Musana Clinic
There is a serious need for good health care in Iganga. The current government hospital is overcrowded and almost impossible to get proper care. Musana will provide affordable and good care to not only the Musana community but also the local community.
All of the initial capital needed for the outreach programs will be raised but the operating expenses will be sustained through the various income generating projects.
